3 Tips To A Successful Home Building Project
The Importance of Planning
When you are planning to build or renovate your home, a lot of things can go wrong. The good news, many can be avoided.
Having helped numerous Australian home-owners have a successful building experience we came up with three tips to help make your project go as smoothly as possible.
-
Finalise your plans before engaging a builder
Before you even engage a builder, ensure you have finalised and approved plans that the builder can work with and quote from.
Giving a builder draft and incomplete plans can result in the following problems:
- Inaccurate quotes, especially if the plans keep changing
- A delay in your project
- Frustration for all parties involved
-
Avoid buying materials
Sourcing your own materials can cost you more and require a lot of your time and effort in searching.
Builders and other tradies often have established relationships with trade suppliers where they can help you access discounts.
Ask your builder to handle the purchasing of materials. It also means if there are any issues, they will deal with it – not you.
-
Avoid distractions and risk of accidents
Although you cannot really fully avoid the renovation and your family situation overlapping, it would help your builders and trades to complete your project as fast as possible – which means limiting the number of distractions.
Your kids and pets may not only get in the way but they can also run into accidents if they are too close to where the work is happening.
If you can afford to be out of your house during the building project then the better. However, if the project is just confined in a specific area then make sure it becomes off limits.
